The South Carolina Old West Shootists (SCOWS), MCRC’s local NCOWS posse, recently held our regular September “2nd Sunday” match on Sept. 13, 2026. We had six (6) participants, who shot all four stages and a short bonus stage in the newly christened, Capt. JEB Forest Memorial Bay (i.e. Bay 4) at the Mid Carolina Rifle Club (MCRC). Things went smoothly, and we were done shooting by lunchtime, before the hottest part of the day. Everyone had a blast.
Our next match will be the second Sunday of October (Oct. 11, 2026), where we again plan to shoot 4 main stages in 1 bonus stage in Cooper Pistol Bays 4 & 5 at MCRC. This match will be Old West Halloween-themed. As usual, Cowboy Coffee and breakfast pastries will be provided, and guests and visitors are always welcome.
In addition, since October has five (5) Saturdays, SCOWS plans to be shooting a special “Fifth Saturday” match on Saturday, October 31. While this would seem to be perfectly timed for a Halloween-themed Match, our “Cowboy DNA” is more in tune with the history of the Old West than ghosts and goblins, and given that October 26 will mark the 145th Anniversary of the famous Gunfight at the OK Corral, we will be holding our annual Gunfight at the OK Corral Match, with all stages based on historical events of that gunfight and subsequent related events around Tombstone.
