Our local NCOWS posse, the South Carolina Old West Shootists (SCOWS) recently held its regularly scheduled Monthly “2nd Sunday” Match for the month of February on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025, in the Cooper Pistol Bays at the Mid-Carolina Rifle Club (MCRC). The match consisted of four (4) stages based on events from the Old West, and a short bonus stage that tested the shooters’ pistol or rifle skills.
A total of nine (9) shooters, including 2 new shooters, both of whom are now pending NCOWS members, competed on a beautiful February day that felt more like spring than winter. Unfortunately, there were a number of equipment issues, including with the black powder Parson brought along for use in his long-barreled flintlock “smoke pole”, which caused some mid-match category changes and DNFs.
There were no clean shooters; even though Sgt. Henry shot the main match clean, he had a true “Dagnabbit” when he missed the very last shot of the bonus stage, ruining what had been a perfect day.
