Our local NCOWS posse, South Carolina Old West Shootists (SCOWS) recently held one of its semi-irregularly scheduled “5th Saturday” Match for the month of November on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024, in the Cooper Pistol Bays. The match consisted of four (4) stages based on gunfights from the Old West, and a short bonus stage that tested the shooters’ rifle AND pistol skills.
A total of eight (8) shooters, including 3 new shooters (2 cowboys and a first-time lady gunfighter), braved a near freezing morning to start the match. Surprisingly, instead of the usual 8 shooters in 8 different categories scenario, 7 of the 8 shooters all shot in either the Working Cowboy (1 Rifle/1 Pistol) or Lawman (1 Rifle, 1 Pistol, 1 Shotgun) categories (with one minor variation based on shooting style), and the shooter in the 3rd category was the aforementioned lady gunfighter, who shot the match in the posse’s Town Citizen (1 Pistol) category.
There were no clean shooters, but everyone seemed to enjoy the challenging stages presented. Special congratulations to new cowboy Josh (cowboy alias pending), who, in his first match, finished in first place in the Working Cowboy category, managing the fastest raw time while only notching 1 miss on each of the 4 main stages (4 misses total), as well as a perfect bonus stage.

NEXT MATCH
Given the short (8 day) turn-around between this recent match and the next scheduled NCOWS match, the posse has elected to postpone the regularly scheduled December “2nd Sunday” match until later in the month. So, there will not be a match on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024. The next NCOWS Match is tentatively scheduled for Sunday. December 29, 2024 (the weekend before New Years), when we are planning to hold a full “4 stage + bonus” match. Details to follow. Hope to see you all there!
