January GPA Match Report

January 2026 GPA Match Report

We had 35 shooters come to our January 24th Galactic Pistol Alliance match at MCRC. This was our first GPA match of the year. We had 75 shooters sign up for the match, and mostly due to the weather, 35 attendees. Friday setup and Saturday match day were actually pretty nice but cold days.

Winners of each class/division (from Practiscore):

High Full Size Optics (18 shooters): Eric Sczesny (also High Overall and High Platinum)

High Full Size Iron Sights (5 shooters): Lee Williams

High Compact Optics (4 shooters): Jim Kornilieff

High Compact Iron Sights (2 shooters): David Gowans

High Pistol Caliber Carbine* (4 shooters): Eric Jackson

High Revolver (1 shooter): Travis Crain

High Rimfire* (1 shooter): Jennifer Thomas

*Divisions not classified by GPA

High Silver: (4 shooters): Marc Richman (FSO)

High Pew Pewter (1 shooter): Dan Higgins (FSI)

Most Accurate: Eric Jackson (High Unclassified, 29 shooters), down 7 for the match, excellent. (Most Accurate are shooters that did not hit a non-threat target on any stage). 11 shooters made the Most Accurate list.

Setup Crew: Don Rawls and Marc Richman. We need help with setting up the Friday before the match. Many thanks to our local MCRC Safety Officers and all the other Safety Officers and Scorekeepers.

Match Per Time was 110.0 seconds. We had 5 shooters that were below the match Par Time: Eric Sczesny, Eric Jackson, Zack Coleman, Robert Bradley and Jason Karstedt.  The official classifications have been posted on members GPA account pages per Chuck Limpert.

Some good news:

We had 17 of our shooters join GPA, and most will now receive a classification from GPA HQ. We encourage everyone to join GPA. It’s free for 1 year and you get a member number right away. Go to the Galactic Pistol Alliance website https://galacticpistolalliance.com/ for more info. We had 3 different classifications of shooters at this match. I thought that all the shooters had looked at the GPA rulebook and knew what to expect and how to approach the stages that we posted on the sign-up page in Practiscore.

Stage winners:

Stage 1, Wait What [24 rounds, movement required for 1 target, and included some painted hardcover targets from a cover position]: Eric Jackson, PCC, 17.53 seconds. Par Time was 22.1 seconds, and 6 shooters were below it.

Stage 2, Tip Off [24 rounds, targets in the open and a POC, mini steels in front of non threats]: Eric Sczesny, FSO, 16.71 seconds. Par Time was 22.7 seconds, and 5 shooters were below it.

Stage 3, Dog On Leash [24 rounds, 2 disappearing double drop turners activated by steel, head shots from POC, 4 cut down coyotes with a swinging non threat] Eric Sczesny, FSO, 17.60 seconds. Par Time was 22.5 seconds, and 2 shooters were below it.

Stage 4, MI 6 Training Exercise [23 rounds, start facing uprange, steel in front of non threats, head shots, a window to be opened]: Eric Sczesny, 16.29 seconds.

Par Time was 21.0 seconds, and 3 shooters were below it.

Stage 5, Corey’s Door [24 rounds, 3 rounds each threat target, POC and enter room to retrieve reloads and engage 4 targets while moving]: Eric Sczesny, 14.31 seconds. Par Time was 21.7 seconds, and 8 shooters were below it. (Par time was likely a little too high)

January Stage Breakdown:

 Stage 3, “Dog On Leash”

On this stage, 10 shooters hit a non-threat, 15 had a miss on target, and 2 had a procedural error. No shooters shot it perfectly with 0 down and 0 penalty. Stage winner was Eric Sczesny, followed by Eric Jackson, Zack Coleman and Jason Karstedt. 2 shooters were below Par Time, and our original estimated Par Time was likely about 2 seconds too low.

Take a look at it below and see how you would approach it:
